The Mysterious Seelie Wight Women
Rag Curtain Theatre • Semi-professional company
About the show
Rag Curtain Theatre brings to life a tale rooted in sixteenth-century Scottish folk belief and history. The show follows Maggie and Jonet, two working-class Lowland Scottish women, as they are initiated into the ways of the seelie wight witches. Threading together faith in faerie law, friendship and nature, with music and ritual, the production explores how folk belief became a mode of survival for women navigating the seismic changes to politics, faith and daily life brought by the Reformation and the Scottish Witchcraft Act.
Why see this show?
A rare chance to experience folk history told with genuine intimacy — two women using ancient belief to navigate an era of upheaval. The combination of ritual, music and historical drama at the Tarot Room makes this an unusually atmospheric Fringe production.
