Another Summer

Some Strange HarmonySemi-professional company

60 minutesRoyal Oak Lounge
In fallow seasons of the mind, summer becomes a hallowed symbol of freedom and abundance thought to be elsewhere. This show probes the darkness beneath the idealized summer we seek, using various combinations of violin, harmonium, vocals and spoken word to create an intricate interweaving of original writing, re-imagined folk songs and re-contextualized excerpts from the likes of Bach, Myrkur and Kafka. This is a journey through the dissonances (both cognitive and otherwise) between unrealized possibilities and travelled roads, through seemingly endless iterations and layerings that somehow bring us home – the long way.

About Some Strange Harmony

Some Strange Harmony presents Another Summer at Royal Oak Lounge — a 60-minute show exploring the darkness beneath the idealised summer we seek. Using violin, harmonium, vocals and spoken word, the semi-professional company weaves together original writing, re-imagined folk songs and re-contextualised excerpts from composers and writers including Bach, Myrkur and Kafka. The show charts a journey through the dissonances between unrealised possibilities and travelled roads, finding its way home the long way. Tickets are £10.

Why see this show?

A genuinely unusual combination of violin, harmonium, spoken word and folk song, Another Summer sits in the space between the summer we imagine and the one we actually live. Thoughtful, layered and unhurried.
