Google National Theatre of ScotlandAbout the show
National Theatre of Scotland presents Through the Shortbread Tin at Netherbow Theatre as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. The show tells the story of the greatest literary hoax of all time: in 1760, Scottish poet James Macpherson set the world ablaze with stories of the third-century Scottish bard Ossian — but was it built on deceit? Alongside this, performer Martin O'Connor examines his own relationship with Scottish culture — sporrans, stags, shortbread and all. Performed in Scots with Gaelic songs, the show runs for 75 minutes and is suitable for ages 12 and over.
Why see this show?
A witty and genuinely provocative look at Scottish cultural identity through the lens of a remarkable literary scandal. Performed in Scots with Gaelic songs, it is both intellectually alive and theatrically distinctive.
