Deacon Brodie isn't that well known outside of Edinburgh. Yet he inspired Robert Louis Stevenson to write Jekyll and Hyde. Similarly, Stanley isn't that well known outside of Stockport. Yet he's campaigned with Napoleon and been up Everest with Mallory. Maybe. Perhaps. By day, in the 18th century, Deacon Brodie was a respectable cabinetmaker. By night, he was a masked burglar in Edinburgh's Old Town. Against his will, Stanley gets roped into his escapades. And he could flipping well swing for it. A public hanging!

About Tall History Tales

Tall History Tales brings The Tale of the Original Jekyll and Hyde, a comedy-historical theatre show at Willow Studio. Deacon Brodie, largely unknown outside Edinburgh, inspired Robert Louis Stevenson to write Jekyll and Hyde. By day in the eighteenth century, Brodie was a respectable cabinetmaker; by night, a masked burglar in Edinburgh's Old Town. The show pairs Brodie's story with that of Stanley from Stockport, who may or may not have campaigned with Napoleon and climbed Everest with Mallory. Against his will, Stanley gets drawn into Brodie's escapades — and could end up swinging for it at a public hanging.

Why see this show?

A comic blend of real Edinburgh history and gloriously unreliable narration, this show turns Deacon Brodie's infamous double life into an adventure that's as funny as it is entertaining. Perfect for anyone who likes their history told with a wink.
