The Ostrich Principle
Kirsten Milliken / David Hughes • Professional company
About the show
The Ostrich Principle is a political storytelling show from professional company Kirsten Milliken and David Hughes. Two traditional storytellers draw on myths, legends and folk songs to explore what happens when people choose compliance in the face of injustice, oppression and tyranny. The piece asks how long we can excuse wrongdoing once it has learned to bite, and frames its narrative as a rousing call to arms — a rallying cry to pull our heads from the sand, look darkness in the eye and make a stand.
Why see this show?
Milliken and Hughes use the oldest storytelling tools — myth, legend and folk song — to make a fiercely contemporary argument. It is passionate, purposeful theatre that trusts its audience to be moved as well as entertained.
