The Bear
Edinburgh Graduate Theatre Group • Amateur Company
About the show
The Bear is Edinburgh Graduate Theatre Group's rendition of Chekhov's comedy farce, performed at The Hepburn Suite during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. A widow swears eternal devotion to her late husband until an irate creditor arrives demanding repayment of a debt. What begins as an impolite visitation erupts into a ferocious battle of wills, wits and wildly inconvenient desire. Slammed doors, smashed furniture and loaded pistols give way to love, as a duel of honour spirals into a reckless courtship. The show runs for 45 minutes and is suitable for ages 12 and over.
Why see this show?
Fast-paced, destructive and full of barely suppressed desire — this energetic take on Chekhov's farce revels in the thin line between loathing and longing. Short, sharp and thoroughly entertaining.
