Slime. Ooze. Mucus. Tobi feels like he is covered, head-to-toe, in slugs. Every unwanted kiss, lover and confused indignity over the years has left its oozy mark. They've always been there, but one recent romantic encounter and suddenly these slimy gastropods are taking over in a big way. From his childhood bedroom, Tobi explores fractured memories of his queer, adolescent sexual awakening (replete with a Hollyoaks Hunks calendar circa 2008) in an attempt to make peace with the slugs, in this knotty, darkly funny meditation on sex, shame and desire written by Tobias Graham and directed by George Jibson.

About the show

Slugs is a new play by Tobias Graham, directed by George Jibson and presented by Patrick Bone Productions. The show follows Tobi, who explores fractured memories of his queer adolescent sexual awakening from his childhood bedroom. A recent romantic encounter brings long-suppressed feelings — described as slimy gastropods — flooding back. The play is a darkly funny meditation on sex, shame and desire. It runs for 60 minutes at Bunker One and is suitable for ages 18 and over, with content warnings for distressing themes, scenes of a sexual nature, strong language and references to potential sexual assault.

Why see this show?

A knotty, darkly funny piece about shame and desire that uses slugs as its central metaphor — unsettling and funny in equal measure. New writing with a distinctive premise and clear authorial voice.
