Abby works three jobs. Her bills keep going up, her car keeps breaking down and her 12 year old, Baxter, keeps growing. When she’s summoned to school to talk about her son’s behaviour, her carefully constructed world topples. Baxter's teacher fears he’s been radicalised by the manosphere. Abby’s astounded – all she’s ever tried to do is equip him to stand up for women’s rights. Headteacher Sam offers support. But Abby and Sam have unfinished business. How far will Abby go to protect what matters most? A darkly funny exploration of women’s choices in a man’s world.

About the show

Shinjuku is a darkly funny new play from Production Lines about Abby, a woman working three jobs while her bills keep rising and her car keeps breaking down. When she is summoned to school to discuss her son Baxter's behaviour — his teacher fears he has been radicalised by the manosphere — Abby is bewildered. She has only ever tried to raise him to stand up for women's rights. The arrival of headteacher Sam, with whom Abby has unfinished business, complicates everything further. The play is a sharp, comic exploration of women's choices in a world shaped by men.

Why see this show?

A tight, darkly comic play that takes on the manosphere, single parenthood and women's solidarity with genuine wit. Production Lines pack a lot into 50 minutes, and the unfinished business between Abby and Sam gives the comedy real dramatic edge.
