Shakespeare's Dead Dames
Academy of Expressive Arts (AEA Productions) • Amateur Company
About the show
Shakespeare's Dead Dames imagines what happens after six female Shakespearean characters die on stage. Trapped in a holding area, they must wait until the play they belong to is revived by another Shakespeare company — so that they can live their tragedy over again. This darkly comic theatrical concept, staged by Academy of Expressive Arts (AEA Productions) at the Upper Theatre (Thrust), gives voice to some of Shakespeare's most famous doomed heroines and lets them sit together in the in-between, reflecting on their repeated fates.
Why see this show?
A clever theatrical conceit that breathes fresh life into familiar characters. Watching six of Shakespeare's ill-fated women compare notes on their repeated demises makes for wry, thoughtful entertainment at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
