About Benjamin Reilly
Mortal Sin is a play by Benjamin Reilly following two best friends, Colm and Peggy, who decide to stage a protest on the day JFK was shot — reasoning that they got a day off school when the Pope died, so why not now? The play is a heartfelt and humorous exploration of growing up different in an Ireland where the church controls everything from the classroom to confession. At its heart it is a celebration of friendship and a small but defiant stand against the shame that shaped a generation. Runs for 60 minutes at the Wee Room. Contains strong language, scenes of violence, and distressing themes. Suitable for ages 14 and above.
Why see this show?
A warm and funny piece about childhood defiance set against a very specific moment in Irish history — the kind of story that feels personal and universal at the same time. Sharp new writing with real heart.
