Growing up, I worshipped the trailblazing Olsen twins, determined to become 90s royalty. Instead, I ended up a non-twin millennial: not white, not American... still not a twin. Raised on promises of 'can't-eat, can't-sleep, reach-for-the-stars, World Series kind of stuff,' I've lived a life less Mary-Kate and Ashley, more misadventures and absurdity. My only claim to fame is a split second in a shampoo ad... so what have I been doing? As a chaos magnet and psychiatrist, I try to work out what to do after diagnosing my childhood blueprint as a lie.

About the show

Mary-Kate and Ashley Ruined My Life (WIP) is a solo stand-up comedy work-in-progress by Imani Dani, presented by Free Festival at Basement Bar. Growing up worshipping the Olsen twins and dreaming of becoming royalty, Imani ended up a non-twin millennial who is not white, not American, and still not a twin. Her only claim to fame is a split second in a shampoo ad. Now working as a psychiatrist and a self-described chaos magnet, she tries to work out what to do after diagnosing her childhood blueprint as a lie. Runs for 60 minutes and is suitable for audiences aged 18 and over.

Why see this show?

A sharp and self-aware comedy that uses nineties nostalgia as a springboard for something far more personal — a comedian and psychiatrist examining the gap between the life she was sold and the one she actually has.
