A festival seeps through the town. People gather. Masks watch. Something moves in the woods. And Kate is gone. Drawn into a shifting, ritualised landscape, a group of young people search for answers, but certainty slips through their fingers. What is community when it's imposed, inherited or unknowable? And what can be built in its place? Written by Kirsty Housley (Fringe First and Samuel Beckett Theatre Trust winner) – this urgent piece fuses live music, mask and ensemble storytelling to explore the stories we tell ourselves and the communities we dare to imagine.

About the show

Make Your Mirror Be Me is a new writing piece by Bad Dukes Theatre, a student and youth company, performed at Big Belly as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Written by Kirsty Housley, a Fringe First and Samuel Beckett Theatre Trust winner, the show follows a group of young people searching for answers after Kate goes missing during a festival that has seeped into their town. The piece fuses live music, mask work and ensemble storytelling to ask what community means when it is imposed, inherited or unknowable. It runs for 60 minutes and is suitable for audiences aged 12 and over.

Why see this show?

A youth company performing new writing by an established Fringe playwright — that combination alone makes this worth watching. The blend of live music, masks and ensemble storytelling gives it an atmospheric quality that sets it apart from most new-writing entries.
