Love in the Cracks is a contemporary theatre production by the Central Academy of Drama from Beijing, inspired by the ancient Chinese myth of Nüwa mending the sky. It explores the bond between a terminally ill mother and her daughter: the mother, seeking to extend her care beyond her own life, transfers her memories and habits into an embodied AI presence. The production uses human-machine performance to examine human intimacy, loss and identity in the context of artificial intelligence, and asks whether love can remain unique when technology can replicate memory and behaviour.
Why see this show?
A production that sits at the meeting point of ancient myth and contemporary technology, asking a question that feels more urgent by the year: when AI can hold someone's memories and habits, what remains that is irreplaceable? Thoughtful and formally inventive.
