60 minutesCC Blooms
When young Marianne convinces her aunt Laura to reveal her tragic origin, she little expects such a tale of death, robbery and heartbreak. And Laura wasn't even responsible for all of it. Written when she was just a teenager, Love and Freindship [sic] is like no other Jane Austen story. Prepare for protagonists casually starving their parents to death, women fainting so often it's a deadly hazard, improbable revelations of parentage, dramatic (or underwhelming) death scenes, and, of course, the basis of real love being entirely that your parents don't approve.

About the show

Edinburgh Rep, Erstwhile Media, and PBH's Free Fringe present a theatrical adaptation of Jane Austen's early comic work Love and Freindship at CC Blooms. Written by Austen when she was just a teenager, the piece is unlike her later novels — featuring protagonists who casually starve their parents, women who faint so frequently it becomes dangerous, improbable revelations of parentage, and the conviction that true love is only valid if your parents disapprove. Young Marianne persuades her aunt Laura to reveal her tragic origin, and what follows is a tale of death, robbery and heartbreak. A free event suitable for ages 12 and over.

Why see this show?

Jane Austen before she was polished — this is her wilder, sillier, more anarchic early self, and it sounds like enormous fun in a theatrical adaptation offered entirely free.
