Gwen John: Strange Beauties is a major exhibition dedicated to one of Wales's most accomplished artists, presented by the National Galleries of Scotland at Modern Two. Born in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire in 1876, Gwen John studied at the Slade School of Art in London and was among the first generation of women to receive a formal art education there before settling in Paris. Marking 150 years since her birth, this is the first major retrospective in over 40 years devoted to her work. Rarely seen drawings and watercolours give insight into her determined artistic vision. Suitable for ages five and over.
Why see this show?
A rare chance to see Gwen John's drawings and watercolours gathered in one place — many rarely exhibited. Strange Beauties offers a fresh perspective on a Welsh artist whose work has been too long out of the spotlight.
