ELBA

ELBA

Ishan Mahabir-StokesProfessional company

Elba is a tiny island in the middle of the Mediterranean. We are best known for those 10 months where Napoleon Bonaparte graced our shores. He promised us wealth and prosperity. We trusted him. We gave him all we had... But we were foolish, weren't we? And now we will never be able to escape him. Napoleon's banishment on the island of Elba was unexpected – nobody, least of all the Elbans, saw this coming. Perhaps a sign of hope, or had Elba become a sacrificial pawn in a megalomaniac's masterplan? Can one man really change an island?

About Ishan Mahabir-Stokes

ELBA is a physical theatre and storytelling show by Ishan Mahabir-Stokes, performed at Just The Sub-Atomic Room. Narrated from the perspective of the island of Elba itself, the show tells the story of Napoleon Bonaparte's unexpected banishment there — and what it meant for the islanders who had no say in the matter. The island gave Napoleon all it had, trusting his promises of wealth and prosperity. The show asks whether his arrival was a sign of hope or whether Elba became a sacrificial pawn in a megalomaniac's masterplan. Suitable for ages 16 and over, it runs for 60 minutes.

Why see this show?

A clever, unusual angle on a familiar piece of history — told from the island's perspective rather than Napoleon's, this solo show turns a footnote into something genuinely thought-provoking. An intimate piece of physical storytelling.
