When Mom with Alzheimer’s hears her son-in-law lament being a serial entrepreneur rather than the artist he would like to be, she decides to create new "cereals" to lighten his load and give him more time. She embarks on a new range of breakfast cereals even creating the advertising and composing the jingles. Her daughter and son-in-law must keep their laughter hidden and her ramblings confined to the home. Always supportive and loving, it takes a lot of skill to allow Mom to keep her dignity and quality of life no matter how bizarre that might be.

About the show

Cereal Entrepreneur is a new-writing theatre piece from The Music Firm in association with Queensboro Bridge Productions (UK/USA), performed at a studio venue as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. When a mother with Alzheimer's mishears her son-in-law's lament about being a serial entrepreneur, she channels her energy into creating a new range of breakfast cereals — complete with advertising and original jingles. Her daughter and son-in-law must hide their laughter while keeping her ramblings contained. The show is a warm, humorous and tender portrait of dignity and quality of life. It runs for 45 minutes and is suitable for ages 12 and over.

Why see this show?

A gentle, inventive piece that finds real warmth and humour in a difficult subject. The central conceit — a mother reinventing herself as a cereal entrepreneur — is charming, and the show handles the realities of Alzheimer's with care and love.
