About Lucas English
Bombs Over Byker is a dynamic solo play written and performed by Lucas English. When River's cosy affluence is shattered, he enlists two disorderly youngsters to plot increasingly riotous acts in search of a higher truth. Set against the backdrop of Newcastle's Byker Estate, with the threat of global war looming, the play questions class prejudice, social conditioning and faith. This is the Edinburgh Fringe debut of the piece, and English's previous play, The Shadow Boxer, was shortlisted for both the Leading Light and Bright Spark awards by the Scottish Theatre Awards on the Fringe.
Why see this show?
A bold solo debut that tackles class, faith and the meaning of resistance through an urgent, kinetic story set on a Newcastle estate. Lucas English's previous Fringe work earned award nominations, making this a compelling new voice in political drama worth catching early.
