About the show
A Public Display of Affection is a solo show by Jonathan Wilson, presented by Rhymes with Purple at Snug. At a queer community event, an elder steps up to deliver the speech everyone expects — warm, wise and reassuring. Instead, he tells the truth. Funny, furious and deeply human, the 60-minute show tumbles through bars, police raids, bathhouses and AIDS wards, as well as the polished cruelty of rainbow capitalism. Friends are lost, old compromises resurface and survival proves messier than nostalgia allows.
Why see this show?
A sharp, unsentimental solo show that refuses the comfort of a tidy queer history. If you want theatre that is honest about what has been lost, compromised and commodified, this is urgent and accomplished work.
