Our story begins in 1847. Abraham Lincoln has just entered national politics. PT Barnum is rising as America’s greatest showman. The Booth brothers, Edwin and John Wilkes, suddenly find themselves worlds apart under the shadow of their famed tragedian father. Guided by Barnum as ringmaster, we enter a circus of memory where the line between history and spectacle blurs as one Booth brother ascends towards theatrical greatness, while the other descends towards one of the most infamous acts in history: the assassination of President Lincoln. Developed within the Cambridge University theatre community that launched SIX.

About Eclipsing Stars

Eclipsing Stars presents a new musical at the Bubble venue, tracing the story of the Booth brothers — Edwin and John Wilkes — as they find themselves worlds apart beneath the shadow of their famed tragedian father. With PT Barnum as ringmaster guiding audiences through a circus of memory, the piece explores the blurring of history and spectacle as one brother ascends to theatrical greatness and the other descends toward the assassination of President Lincoln. The show runs for 60 minutes. Tickets are £12 and it is suitable for audiences aged 12 and over.

Why see this show?

A circus-framed musical that puts two brothers on colliding paths towards one of history's most infamous moments. The ringmaster conceit makes the storytelling genuinely theatrical, not just historical.
