'Buckle up! And hold on to what you can. This ride is gonna get bumpy, but them blessie’s need us'. The Red Cross nurse carries our soldiers out of sickness, out of darkness, back to the light of good health. During WWI, over 38,000 women and men worked as nurses, assistant nurses, ambulance drivers and cooks. This is their story. Over the course of a few days, we see a small glimpse of life through the eyes of a young nurse as she works with Lady Dorothy Feilding and the famous Munro Flying Ambulance Corps.

About the show

Women in War is a historical drama from Out of Office Theatre, performed at Forest Theatre. Set during WWI, the show tells the story of the women and men who served as nurses, assistant nurses, ambulance drivers and cooks — over 38,000 of them, according to the description. Seen through the eyes of a young Red Cross nurse working alongside Lady Dorothy Feilding and the Munro Flying Ambulance Corps, the show offers a glimpse of life over the course of a few days at the front. Running 60 minutes, it is suitable for ages 12 and over and contains distressing themes.

Why see this show?

A compassionate, close-up view of the women who kept soldiers alive in WWI — not generals or politicians, but nurses and drivers whose stories rarely take centre stage. Grounded, human theatre that restores some overlooked history to the light.
