About the show
Witches? In Salem? is a darkly comedic and mostly historically accurate take on the Salem witch trials, performed by Plant Theatre Company at the Hall. Set in Salem Village, wealthy landowners want your land, local magistrates want your confession, unpopular reverends want your respect and your firewood, while several local children try to make sense of a hysteria they find themselves at the centre of. The show explores what happens when populism runs rampant, injustice is a day-to-day occurrence and a rigid religious minority sets the laws of the land. It runs for 60 minutes and is suitable for audiences aged 14 and over.
Why see this show?
A knowing, darkly funny student production that treats the Salem witch trials as something uncomfortably familiar. If populism, injustice and rigid religious law sound like old timey problems, this show is here to complicate that assumption.
