About the show
Welcome to Gaza is a new writing production by The Hands Up Project and Welcome to the Fringe, performed at the Town Hall. Nineteen plays by children from Gaza and the West Bank — written before October 2023 — are woven into a continuous play, continually interrupted by verbatim audio, written and video messages from the aftermath of conflict. The piece weaves together stories of dancing, genies, animals, mothers-in-law and ghosts with accounts of bombed hospitals and schools. The show runs for 60 minutes and is suitable for audiences aged 14 and over. Content warnings apply.
Why see this show?
A genuinely important piece of new writing that holds two realities together — the ordinary playfulness of children's stories and the devastating weight of what came after. Difficult and necessary, it gives voice to those who wrote before they lost everything.
