Wakati is a 60-minute contemporary dance performance at DB 1, Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2025, by Shelmith Øseth. Wakati is a Swahili word for time. The work explores how past, present and future affect the development of a culture and the life of a human. Drawing on Shelmith's own experience of immigrating to Norway from Kenya, the performance examines the expectations, ideas and limits that come with being an immigrant and multicultural in Norway, and sheds light on how identity changes within and between different cultures.
