The Spanking Goddess and Other Discarded Tales is a spoken word storytelling show from Clare Murphy at the Netherbow Theatre. Murphy leads a romp through the untold myths of the Celts, exhuming the Celtic canon to bring back the wild women who never made the cut. A shapeshifter spanks her opponents, a queen balances on the point of a spear, heroes are defeated by mother-daughter warriors, and we witness the first divorce — and the woman won. Wicked tales of badass deities, feral fighters, unorthodox sex and goddess-on-goddess battles — not for the faint-hearted and definitely for grown-ups. The show runs for 60 minutes and is suitable for audiences aged 16 and over.
Why see this show?
Clare Murphy breathes life into Celtic myths that have been left out of the canon for a reason — they are too fierce, too female and too much fun. A masterly evening of storytelling that reclaims the women history forgot.
