The Queen is Mad is a new musical at the Studio venue, presented by Castile Collective Ltd in association with Pinecone Performance Lab. It is a dark saga inspired by Catherine of Aragon's older sister, Joanna — who went down in history as Joanna the Mad. When Joanna unexpectedly becomes Queen, her father and husband are determined to silence her. The show asks: what if she was not insane, but furious? It features the song Locked Away, a finalist in the Stiles and Drewe Best New Song Prize in 2024. The show runs for 75 minutes; tickets start from £12.50.
Why see this show?
A dark musical reimagining of Joanna the Mad — a woman dismissed by history as insane, reframed here as furious. Sharp, original new writing with songs that range from lilting melodies to dissonant lullabies.
