About Ngofeen Mputubwele
Ngofeen Mputubwele's solo theatre show reimagines his first major assignment for The New Yorker — covering the global monkeypox outbreak. With parents from Congo (the virus's origin) and connections to the NYC queer community where infections spread, Ngofeen is the ideal reporter for the story. Having recently left the evangelical church and broken his vow of lifelong celibacy, he risks confronting the world he has left behind while navigating his emerging identity as a gay man. Adapted from a podcast, the 60-minute show is described as a coming-of-later-age story with nerdy tangents. For ages 16 and above at Belly Laugh.
Why see this show?
Personal, politically charged and genuinely unusual — a solo show that weaves journalism, faith, queerness and a global health crisis into one cohesive narrative. The podcast origins give it a confident storytelling voice that translates well to the stage.
