About Hive MCR
Hive MCR, a student and youth company, presents The Exterminator — a dark comedy political theatre piece by playwright Kara Hardie. A Tenant's life is uprooted when a Squatter boldly declares her living space as his own, using this microcosm to explore colonisation, occupation and displacement across Britain. Drawing from Hardie's connection to the 1974 invasion of Cyprus, the play uses dark comedy, audience interaction, physical theatre and shadow work to explore themes of power and resilience. Running 60 minutes at The Annexe, suited to audiences aged 14 and over, tickets are £8.
Why see this show?
Political theatre that works on multiple levels — a domestic dispute, a British allegory and a personal response to the 1974 invasion of Cyprus. Hive MCR use dark comedy and physical theatre to make complex themes about occupation and power feel immediate.
