Google Breaking NarrativeAbout Breaking Narrative
Breaking Narrative, a semi-professional company, perform Shakespeare the Panto in 45 minutes at The Vault, Edinburgh Festival Fringe. The conceit places well-loved Shakespeare characters inside a Tudor world retold as a British pantomime, with Shakespeare's rival Robert Greene rewriting history. Three cast members play every role and audiences are invited to boo the baddie, warn characters of what lurks behind them, and sing along. The show features Romeo and Juliet, A Midsummer Night's Dream and The Scottish Play.
Why see this show?
A 45-minute pantomime with three performers playing every Shakespeare character is a logistical feat in itself. The audience participation format keeps it lively, and the framing — what if Greene had got his hands on the story — is a nice wrinkle on well-worn material.
