About University of York DramaSoc

Scapegoat is a comedy satire presented by University of York DramaSoc — a student and youth company — at the Annexe during Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2025. Set on New Year's Eve 2007, a fraud scandal has gone public, hitting the Company hard and triggering massive layoffs for low-level employees and possible prison time for those at the top. The accounting department must choose who among them will take the blame, while also navigating their imminent internal collapse. The show runs for 45 minutes and is suitable for audiences aged 14 and over.

Why see this show?

Sharp office satire with very real stakes — this student production uses the pressure-cooker of a single room and a single crisis to mine both comedy and genuine tension from corporate blame culture.
