The Howe Street Ensemble, directed by Les Shankland, performs choral and classical music by Antonio Vivaldi at Edinburgh's historic Canongate Kirk. Vivaldi was employed as Maestro di Capella at the Ospedale Della Pieta in the great mercantile city of Venice. The strikingly simple interior of Canongate Kirk provides a fine acoustic for some of his most exquisite pieces. The programme includes the famous Gloria in D major, as well as Lauda Jerusalem, and the Vesper Psalm Beatus Vir. Running for 90 minutes, the concert is suitable for ages 8 and over.
