RIFT is a new play by US playwright Gabriel Jason Dean, presented by Luna Stage and Richard Jordan Productions with Traverse Theatre at Traverse 2, Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2025. Two brothers who shared a traumatic childhood are now on opposite ends of the world: one a progressive novelist, the other a convicted murderer and high-ranking member of a white supremacist prison gang. The 80-minute play is inspired by Dean's real-life relationship with his own brother and asks whether it is truly possible to love someone whose beliefs you hate. Age guidance: 16+.
Why see this show?
A heartbreakingly honest exploration of race, power and ideological divides that draws on the playwright's own family. Urgent, uncomfortable and hopeful in equal measure — theatre that earns its emotional weight.
