About the show
Red Like Fruit is a theatre production by the professional company known as 2b theatre company, performed at Traverse 2. The play follows Lauren, who asks a man named Luke to narrate her life — her fraying mental health, her growing unease in the world, and memories of sexual events from her own adolescence that she revisits with eerie ambivalence. As Lauren loses her grip on her own story, the show interrogates complicity, consent, patriarchy and traumatic memory in the post #MeToo era. The production carries several content warnings including distressing themes, sexual violence and strong language.
Why see this show?
A provocative and formally inventive piece of new writing that uses the device of narration to unspool questions about memory, consent and who gets to tell a woman's story. Red Like Fruit is challenging but purposeful theatre — not comfortable, but important.
