Out of My Head — Alan Watts is Alive and Well... Dead is a solo theatre show at Upstairs. Written and performed by Jeremy Stockwell, directed by Terry Johnson, and presented by Pleasance, it imagines the last night on Earth of Alan Watts — hippie, philosopher and pioneer of the counterculture. In his Californian hilltop hideaway, Watts contemplates his mortality and his life as a freewheeling guru and spiritual rogue. From his hospital bed, Jeremy Stockwell imagines what might have been if he had met his hero — a wild ride through an eccentric landscape of love, sex, vodka and mortality.
Why see this show?
A philosopher's last night alive, imagined from a hospital bed — Out of My Head blends personal obsession with theatrical invention. Written and performed by Jeremy Stockwell and directed by Terry Johnson, it is both deeply eccentric and genuinely moving.
