NIUSIA is a 60-minute solo theatre show by Beth Paterson, presented by a ry presentation, at the Former Womens Locker Room. Niusia was a Holocaust survivor; her granddaughter Beth remembers only an angry, dying woman. Through memories, handed-down stories and interviews, Beth weaves together a work that examines the precarity of identity and the haphazard cultural legacy passed to second, third and fourth generation immigrants. It asks what remembrance looks like when all you remember is the space where questions should go. Suitable for ages 14 and over.
Why see this show?
A careful, intimate piece that uses personal memory and inherited silence to explore Holocaust legacy and immigrant identity. The storytelling approach — weaving interviews with handed-down stories — gives it a texture that is both specific and broadly felt.
