Middle Class Hero is Ian's attempt to chart his working class Liverpudlian roots to the middle-class world he now finds himself in, without the need for being frisked on a regular basis. From humble beginnings to professional footballer, to loser of £1M live on ITV's Red or Black gameshow, to finding himself in stand-up comedy. Ian's journey is varied, rich and full of stories of what might have been and what is yet to come. This is all about how to keep his inner scouser under control and is much cheaper than therapy.

About Ian Murphy

Middle Class Hero (WIP) is a stand-up comedy work-in-progress from Ian Murphy, performed at Just the Spare Room at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Ian charts his journey from working class Liverpudlian roots — through a stint as a professional footballer and a spell as a gameshow contestant on ITV's Red or Black — to finding himself in stand-up comedy. The show is about keeping his inner scouser under control and is, as Ian puts it, much cheaper than therapy. The show runs for 60 minutes. Tickets are £10. Age guidance is 18 and over. Strong language is used.

Why see this show?

A journey through class, football, television and comedy that's rich in self-deprecating storytelling. Ian Murphy's Liverpudlian perspective and willingness to lay his own contradictions bare make for an honest and entertaining hour.
