Mending Nets is a sixty-minute show at Netherbow Theatre by Janis Mackay and Nada Shawa, blending dance, poetry and storytelling. Palestinian poet and dancer Nada Shawa and Scottish storyteller and dancer Janis Mackay build a bridge of friendship, with Nada's wheelchair woven integrally into her dance so that the chair becomes invisible. The piece explores how sharing stories and poetry from our lands can help people retrieve an unravelled sense of identity. It was originally commissioned for the Scottish International Storytelling Festival 2024.
Why see this show?
A genuinely moving collaboration between a Palestinian poet-dancer and a Scottish storyteller-dancer, where identity, land and friendship are explored through movement, words and shared presence. Intimate, carefully crafted and quietly radical.
