About the show
MARIUPOL is a play written by Katia Haddad, based on her own memories of the city and accounts from survivors of the siege. The story begins in Summer 1992 when Galina, a student from Moscow, meets Steve, a charismatic Ukrainian navy officer. Thirty years later, Galina returns to search for him in a bunker beneath the bombed Azovstal — finding that even on opposite sides of war, their lives remain connected. The show runs for 60 minutes at Beneath and is suitable for ages 12 and over.
Why see this show?
A play rooted in personal memory and survivors' accounts, MARIUPOL traces a love story across thirty years and a war. The intimacy of the Beneath venue suits a story that moves between 1992 hope and present-day ruins.
