Having been a highly satisfied customer of this venue, John is delighted to have been invited to do a short festival run and take on the folk/roots feel of the programming. The tales are sung, spoken and depicted in bits of cardboard, many of them seen and heard for their first time, here at the UCC. The folk include family members alongside the human suitcase, the dry drystone wall builder, the Hokey Kokey madam and Hercules's grandma. Devised for adults but not unsuitable for the odd nine-year-old. 'An incurable entertainer' (Guardian). 'Awesomely mundane' (Independent).

About John Hegley

John Hegley performs a short festival run at the Main Room during Edinburgh Festival Fringe, bringing a folk and roots sensibility to his characteristic blend of sung, spoken, and visually depicted storytelling. Many of the tales on offer are receiving their first public airing. The cast of characters includes family members, a human suitcase, a dry drystone wall builder, the Hokey Kokey madam, and Hercules's grandma — all rendered in bits of cardboard. Running for 60 minutes and suitable for ages 8 and over, tickets are £17. The show is described as devised for adults but not unsuitable for the occasional older child.

Why see this show?

John Hegley at his most unhurried and peculiar — sung folk tales, cardboard illustrations, and characters you will not find anywhere else at the Fringe. A genuinely one-off experience from a distinctive British voice.
