About the show
Oor Theatre (Scotland) present this historical drama set in Scotland in the year 1561. Queen Mary returns from France to rule her country and faces hostility from the Protestant lords who regard her as more French than Scottish — and suspect her as a Catholic woman. The lords choose Henry Darnley as her husband, but as that marriage unravels, both Mary and Darnley find unexpected solace in her Italian secretary David Rizzio. Flitting between comedy and tragedy, the play examines homophobia and relationships and asks who truly decides our fate.
Why see this show?
A compact and affordable drama that takes a fresh look at one of Scotland's most turbulent royal love triangles. The blend of comedy and tragedy, and its pointed questions about homophobia and power, make it much more than a history lesson.
