Hooked: 500 Years of Addiction is a free exhibition at the Physicians' Gallery exploring the history of addiction from heroin and gambling to alcohol and love. The exhibition examines the stereotypes attached to addiction and how all of us can be vulnerable to it. It explores pills, drink, snuff and cigarettes, uncovering the many faces of addiction and attempts to combat it, including the dark origins of substance addiction in the western world, rooted in colonialism and slavery. The exhibition features books, objects, artworks and interviews and considers the meaning of addiction, its causes and the stigma attached to being addicted.
