About Chai Wan Rabble
Hahaha–Hamlet is a devised musical comedy by Chai Wan Rabble, an ensemble of Hong Kong performers, reimagining Shakespeare's classic by intertwining it with contemporary Hongkonger stories. The show follows three storylines: Wong Ka Kee, a masters student in 2058; Hamlet, the iconic Danish prince; and Mr Cheung, an everyday man in 2025. Together they confront the eternal question of to be or not to be. Blending original musical numbers with dark humour, this eighty-minute production at The Sanctuary is suitable for ages twelve and over.
Why see this show?
A bold, cross-cultural reimagining that finds unexpected common ground between Hamlet's dilemma and contemporary Hong Kong life. The three-strand structure keeps the storytelling dynamic, and the musical numbers give it real theatrical energy.
