China Coal Mine Art Troupe from China presents Echoes at the main house stage of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. This music theatre piece is inspired by the Wei-Jin era's Seven Sages of the Bamboo Grove and reimagines the final moments of Ji Kang, who played the guqin — a traditional Chinese musical instrument — before his execution. In the piece, the guqin becomes a spiritual vessel through which Ji Kang's companions confront grief, freedom and existential meaning. The show blends music, drama and physical theatre, and is performed in Mandarin with English surtitles. It runs for 50 minutes and is suitable for ages 8 and above.
