About Briony Martha and Zak Reay-Barry
Do Astronauts Masturbate in Space? is a dark comedy by Briony Martha and Zak Reay-Barry set in an overpopulated Britain where the Parental Act requires everyone to obtain a licence to have children. The 55-minute play follows charming young couple Lily and Gareth who, after falling pregnant, must attend a week-long retreat where their baby's fate is decided by the State. Failing the retreat means a forced abortion. Once inside, cracks begin to show, secrets surface, and their love is pushed to the limit. Performed at Willow Studio, suitable for ages 16+, from £9.
Why see this show?
A sharp, electric dark comedy that uses speculative fiction to expose real anxieties about autonomy, the State, and relationships under pressure. The confined premise keeps the tension taut throughout — 55 minutes of new writing that refuses to look away.
