Consumed is a pitch-black and twisted tale by playwright Karis Kelly, brought to life by Paines Plough, Belgrade Coventry, Sheffield Theatres, and Women's Prize for Playwriting. The play centres on a ninetieth birthday party that no one seems to want, drawing four generations of Northern Irish women together under one roof — a house full of hungry ghosts and more than one skeleton in the closet. It is a sharp, unsettling examination of dysfunctional family dynamics, generational trauma, and national boundaries, presented in association with the Lyric Theatre Belfast.
Why see this show?
A properly dark family drama with real structural ambition — four generations trapped together, secrets surfacing over a birthday no one wanted. Traverse 1 suits this kind of tightly wound, pressure-cooker theatre very well.
