For Albert Camus, the Absurd Hero is embodied in the mythological character of Sisyphus, mayor of Corinth, sentenced by Zeus to the mundane task of pushing a boulder up a hill only to see it roll back down for eternity. In our present-day version of the Greek myth, Sisyphus (now Sid) must persuade the homeless Gods to cooperate with city hall if he wants to be mayor. Oh, how the tables have turned on Olympus in 2025.

About the show

Absurd Hero is a 60-minute musical comedy by April Alsup Productions at Willow Studio, Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2025. Based on the myth of Sisyphus — as described by Albert Camus — the show reimagines the character (now called Sid) in 2025, where he must persuade homeless Gods to cooperate with city hall if he wants to be mayor of Corinth. The Greek myth of eternal boulder-pushing meets modern bureaucratic absurdity. Tickets are £10 (£7.50 concession) and the show is suitable for ages 12 and up.

Why see this show?

A musical that puts Camus's Sisyphus in 2025 and hands him a city hall problem to solve. It's an inventive blend of ancient myth and contemporary comedy, and at 60 minutes it keeps things light.
