About the show
A Wolf Shall Devour the Sun is performed by Dougie Mackay and Jemima Thewes at the Netherbow Theatre. The show blends ancient myth, mesmeric imagery and dreamlike soundscapes to open a liminal space where Norse gods, Irish shapeshifters and Siberian wolf-children traverse Scottish moors and Transylvanian mountains. Live music stirs the soul, while shadow puppetry and animation portray terror and playfulness. Wolves were hunted to extinction in Scotland by the eighteenth century, and the show asks what is lost in their absence. Originally commissioned by the Scottish International Storytelling Festival in 2024.
Why see this show?
Live music, shadow puppetry and myth-spanning storytelling woven together by two skilled performers — a deeply atmospheric piece that asks serious questions about wildness and loss, but never loses its sense of wonder.
