A Poem and a Mistake is a solo show performed by actor Sarah Baskin in which a grad student's confrontation with her professor over the fifty sexual assaults in Ovid's Metamorphoses sparks a magical yet terrifying transformation. Through seventeen characters and 120 transformations, Baskin morphs into gods, goddesses, boyfriends, girlfriends, tricksters and fiends in a whiplash comedy-drama. The show explores gender, sexuality and desire, cutting to the duality in all of us: aggressor and victim, teacher and student, god and mortal.
Why see this show?
A virtuoso solo performance that tears through seventeen characters and 120 transformations to explore something genuinely difficult about power, desire and classical literature. Confrontational, funny and hard to forget.
