'I think pregnant woman are ugly. Well, not ugly, that sounds bad.' Sophie's stolen a baby. She doesn't even want a baby... but she knows that this baby deserves a good life and a good mother that doesn't deep throat fags and voddy-cokes. A Minor Theft is a comedy and a love letter to all those grieving deaths so painful they upend our worlds. The show is an exploration of infant death, working class on working class judgement and the strange things that grief makes us do.

About Beth Mullen

A Minor Theft is a new solo comedy by Beth Mullen, performed at Playground 2. Sophie has stolen a baby — not because she wants one, but because she believes this particular baby deserves a better life and a better mother. The show is a comedy and a love letter to grief: specifically, to the grief of infant death and the strange, desperate things it makes people do. It explores working class community, judgement, and the complicated territory between love, loss, and impulsive decisions.

Why see this show?

Beth Mullen takes genuinely difficult subject matter — infant death, grief, working class lives — and finds comedy that is honest rather than exploitative. A Minor Theft is tender, raw and funny in a way that respects the weight of what it is actually about.
