Three performers take on 20+ characters in 45 minutes in a performance that asks: who controls the narrative? In 2003, playwright Suzan-Lori Parks tasked herself with writing a play a day, sometimes two. We have curated ten of those pieces to present for our 21st year at the festival – featuring goddesses, exiled kings, unhinged presidents, writers, muses and some regular folks. By writing a play daily, Parks reflected on the year she lived in and on the world at that historical moment. What is amazing is how relevant many of those reflections remain today.

About the show

Penn Theatre Ensemble's 365 Days/365 Plays is a 45-minute devised theatre piece at Space 1, Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Three performers take on more than twenty characters drawn from ten plays curated from playwright Suzan-Lori Parks's famous daily writing project, in which she challenged herself to write a play a day. The selection features goddesses, exiled kings, unhinged presidents, writers, muses and ordinary people, asking who controls the narrative. Content warning: strong language.

Why see this show?

A fast-moving, ensemble showcase that packs an extraordinary range of characters into 45 minutes, asking whether the reflections of a playwright from years past still speak to the world today. Thought-provoking and energetic in equal measure.
